College Advisory Program
CAP (College Advisory Program) is the embodiment of CESA's goal of ensuring that male and female players who have the talent, desire and commitment necessary to compete at the college level have access to a program that will enable them to play against various colleges and universities throughout the Southeast. These opportunities are an important resource that players should take advantage of as they attempt to improve their understanding of the college game, while having the chance to visit campuses and meet with players already enjoying the college experience. Players and parents who have taken part in our spring program over the years have realized how valuable it can be and as we have expanded the number of games to include schools of varying size and ability levels it is safe to say that players will find out if they possess the tools to realistically become successful college student-athletes.
Player Participation
Any currently registered CESA player (Under 16-18) who wishes to participate in the college program will be accepted and will have the opportunity to train and play in at least one event during the college program schedule. In addition any players who contact CESA expressing an interest in participating can be invited to join the college program. This decision can be made by either of the CESA Co-Executive Directors or the Boys or Girls Coordinators. This program is designed to benefit youth players who have the desire to play at the college level and the willingness to sacrifice additional time to reach their goals. For this reason CESA feels it is important to open this program up to players outside the organization that our Directors and Coordinators feel could benefit from this exposure to high level competition.
Game Selection
CESA staff will decide in advance which players will be assigned to participate in a game or event. CESA staff will select players based on his/her ability to compete against a particular opponent, training attendance and interest from a particular college program in a specific player. Players turning down the opportunity to participate in a specific game or event that they have agreed to play indo run the risk of not being selected for future opportunities. This is a part of the CESA program that is taken very seriously and players must be willing to make the commitment necessary to help this program flourish and continue to develop.
Cost
All players are required to pay a fee of $100 to CESA in order to be eligible for participation in the College program.
Conflicts
CESA is aware of the potential conflicts that can occur throughout the spring season. Every effort is made to develop a schedule that will enable players to participate with as little overlap as possible with other activities. However, there will inevitably be situations, which will place the player in the unfortunate position of having to make a choice. We encourage all participants to have open and honest discussions with other coaches or instructors if they feel this will be beneficial. Please keep in mind that this program was developed for you, the player, and it is up to each individual player to take advantage of the opportunities that we have provided. In order to play at a consistently high level you must compete regularly with players who are at or above your present level of play. We look forward to working with each of you and as always please feel free to provide any additional feedback that you feel would be of interest.
Recent NCAA Ruling and CAP
The NCAA recently passed a rule that Division I universities may not scrimmage youth soccer club teams. This rule was passed at the national level at the behest of some high school athletic directors who felt that programs like CAP were interfering with the participation of elite players in high school soccer programs. CESA will continue CAP. In addition to playing Division II and Division III teams as has been done in the past, we are also working with Division I college coaches to ensure that CAP players will continue to get the excellent visibility with respect to Division I programs as well.
