CESA Players Make an Impact at the College Level (Updated 11/10/2010)

 

CESA has many former players who are competing at the college level and we will have regular updates to inform our current club members about the positive contributions our players are making within college programs around the country. Please check back often as we will have additional articles on a regular basis on our website.
Congratulations to former CESA player and current University of Richmond freshman Spencer Schiff (CESA 91 Boys Premier).Spencer was named to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Conference's All Rookie Team. Spencer played in all of the 18 games of the season, starting 12. He ended the season with 3 goals ( two game winning goals), three assists and tied for second on his team in total number of points. 
Congratulations to former CESA players Sarah Schaidle, Hannah Gmerek and Catie Moore. Schaidle, who led the College of Charleston in scoring this season was selected, along with midfielder Gmerek to the recently announced Southern Conference All- Conference 2nd Team for the 2010 season. Moore, a freshman at Furman University, capped a strong first year with her selection to the Southern Conference All- Freshman Team.
Sarah Morabito ( CESA 90 Premier) plays for Gardner-Webb University ( Big South Conference).
Sarah has just completed her sophomore season and played in all 22 games with 12 starts including the Big South Conference Tournament Semi and Finals.  Gardner Webb lost to High Point University 1-0 in overtime in the Championship game.  After 2 seasons at GWU Sarah has played in 41 games with 27 starts.
Matt Sluga ( Erskine College) CESA 90 Boys Premier is a Sophomore who was just named as a 1st Team All Conference selection for 2010. Matt led Erskine in scoring this season with 10 Goals and 3 Assists and helped Erskine to a very successful 11-8-0 record for the recently completed season. Matt capped his season in the Conference Carolinas Tournament by scoring 4 goals in the Quarter- Final match in which Erskine defeated Barton College 6-2. Conratulations to Matt and another former CESA product and Erskine standout Nik Papapieris on a great season. Nik is a Senior defender and was a Team Captain at Erskine.
Spencer Schiff (CESA 91 Boys Premier) and a freshman at the University of Richmond scored his second goal of the season as Richmond defeated George Washington University 2-1.
Kira Campbell ( University of South Carolina) scored the winning goal as the Gamecocks defeated the University of Mississippi 3-0 in a match broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel.
 
University of Kentucky Freshman Ellis Vienne ( CESA 91 Boys Premier) scored his second goal of the season as the Wildcats defeated the University of Evansville 2-1 in overtime. Vienne also scored in the previous game as his header from a last minute corner pushed the Kentucky-Michigan game into overtime. Ellis is starting as a central midfielder for the Wildcats.
Presbyterian College Freshman Becca Miller ( CESA 91 Girls Premier) scored the winning goal as Presbyterian defeated Francis Marion University 1-0.
Alix Zongrone (CESA 89 Girls Premier) has started all 9 games for Vassar College and has scored 2 Goals and added 1 assist to help Vassar to a 7-2-0 record this season.
Jordan Allen ( CESA 91 Girls Premier) has scored 1 Goal and has 2 assists for Francis Marion University.
Liz Kinney ( CESA 89 Girls Challenge) has scored 1 goal for Wingate University this season.
The College of Charleston Women’s Soccer team has received contributions from a variety of former CESA players. Hannah Gmerek ( 1 Goal), Sarah Schaidle and Allie Truitt have all started and contributed heavily to the Cougars 2-0 Southern Conference start. Former CESA goalkeepers Katie Tate and Cricket Wise have both started 4 games this season.
Sarah Schaidle (CESA 90 Girls Premier) was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for September 20-26. Schaidle leads the team in scoring with 5 goals and scored 2 game winning goals last week.
Gabrielle Fennell ( CESA 90 Girls Challenge) has played in 6 games and started 2 at USC- Upstate. She has recorded one assist this season.
Andrew Drennan ( CESA 89 Boys Premier) has started all 6 games this season for Wofford College this season and had 4 saves in the a 1-2 ot loss to the #3 ranked North Carolina Tarheels. Drennan was also named to the All-Tournament team at the UMBC/Navy Kickoff Classic.
 
 
 
At last weekend’s Carolina Cup held at the University of South Carolina CESA had representation on each of the four participating women’s teams. Sarah Jacobs, Morgan Hert and Nicole Cucchi ( Clemson University), Brooke Lisson ( High Point University), Catie Moore ( Furman University) and Kira Campbell, Rae Wilson, Maggie Blackwell ( University of South Carolina).
Sarah Jacobs is a Junior at Clemson University and a team captain. She was named to the All-Tournament team at the Carolina Cup. Brooke Lisson is a freshman at High Point University and scored a goal during their 4-3 victory over Clemson on Sunday. Catie Moore is a freshman at Furman University and also was named to the All- Tournament team announced at the conclusion of the Carolina Cup.
The University of South Carolina won the tournament with victories over both Clemson and Furman. It is great to see our program represented at the college level by these players and we wish them all well as their seasons continue.
